News: Mining Company Development Partner Framework

The Kellogg Innovation Network (KIN) at the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University has released an interesting report they hope will serve as a framework for improving social, environmental and economic sustainability through “a bold new approach [whereby] resource companies build sustainable, long-term value by repositioning mining companies from isolated actors to regional development partners.”

KIN is a platform for cross sector partnerships that foster broad-based prosperity through innovation. The report, “Mining Company of the Future: Development Partner Framework,” is a cross-sector collaboration between leaders from mining companies, contractors, suppliers, researchers, academics, non-profits and representatives from indigenous communities.

The initiative was lead by Mark Cutifani, CEO of Anglo American, Peter Bryant, Partner at Clareo and Ray Offenheiser, President of Oxfam America. The report sets up the background on the development of the framework, highlights current challenges and opportunities for the mining industry and makes a case for the business imperative behind a new mindset.
