Now online: Cobre Panama Resettlement Video

rePlan's client First Quantum has created a video featuring community members from Mina de Cobre Panama speaking about their experiences during the resettlement project, and posted it online in both English and Spanish

Over five years, rePlan prepared and implemented the Resettlement Action Plan (RAP) for Cobre Panama, which guided the compensation and resettlement of over 500 project-affected people. The process achieved Free Prior and Informed Consent and set a new benchmark in mine-related resettlement best practice.

Those displaced included rural campesino homesteads and isolated indigenous Ngöbe communities. The RAP emerged from extensive formal collective negotiations with those to be displaced, resulted in the negotiation and signing of resettlement agreements with each individual household, and culminated in the development and ongoing implementation of individualized Social Development & Housing Plans.
