rePlan Negotiates Successful Land Acquisition in Senegal

rePlan, led by Eric Gallant, Ndary Toure and Jason Thorne, has successfully completed a six-month negotiation forum process between Teranga Gold Corporation and five villages surrounding Teranga's mine site in eastern Senegal, for the acquisition of over 400 hectares of land for the expanding mine operation. The uninhabited lands are currently used for agriculture, grazing and forestry. The agreement that was unanimously endorsed by representatives from the mine, the government, and the affected people, includes provisions for securing replacement lands, cash compensation, and the implementation of a series of livelihood restoration activities. The negotiation process was designed and managed to meet and exceed both national and international standards for land acquisition, and was widely praised for its fairness and transparency by the community members and government officials who participated.
