Teranga Development Strategy Officially Launched

The Teranga Development Strategy was officially launched on Friday February 21 2014 in Kedougou, Senegal.  The long-term strategy, which aims at comprehensively transforming the business practices of Teranga Gold Corporation to support improved development outcomes in the region surrounding the mine, was warmly received by an audience of over 60 persons representing the company, civil society and local elected governments. The launch event was officiated by the Governor of the Region of Kedougou, and included the participation of the national Ministry of Mines and the Canadian Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development.

rePlan's Ndary Toure presented the actions contained in the Strategy on regional employment, professional development, local procurement, mine infrastructure, worker housing, community relations, land acquisition, and payments and investments. The Strategy, which includes a conceptual spatial plan to guide mine-related growth in the region over the coming decades, is being positively reviewed in national news media:  “All of the workshop participants strongly applauded the approach of Teranga and appreciated the quality of the document describing its development strategy for the region of Kedougou, which, in the eyes of the company management constitutes a support for the state-led development efforts.”  - Sud Quotidien Online
