rePlan prepared and implemented a Resettlement Action Plan to guide the physical and economic displacement of over 800 project affected households for Stage 1 of the Ahafo Mine Project. This work was underpinned by an extensive resettlement negotiations process and an explicit commitment by all parties – including project affected households – to international best practices. As part of this work, rePlan oversaw the construction of over 400 resettlement houses and two new towns, as well as associated schools, social amenities and infrastructure. Both rePlan and Newmont are continuing to work with those displaced to ensure restoration of incomes, livelihoods and social systems to levels matching or exceeding their pre-project status.

rePlan is now working on Stage 2 of the Ahafo Mine Project, including baseline surveys of 4500 economically and physically displaced persons and preparation of a resettlement action plan. The International Finance Corporation is involved in regular monitoring and evaluation of the project.
