rePlan prepared two comprehensive Social Impact Assessments for Barrick’s $1.5 billion redevelopment of the Pueblo Viejo gold mine in the Dominican Republic in accordance with international best practice: one for the mine site itself and one for a proposed 120 kilometre-long transmission line.

The assessments included a comprehensive Social Management System that addressed:

  • public consultation and disclosure
  • employment
  • worker housing
  • skills development and education
  • environmental management
  • community health and safety
  • community development
  • land acquisition and resettlement
  • archeological heritage

    rePlan is currently implementing the Resettlement Action Plan for the proposed mine site, and preparing a Easement Acquisition Plan to guide compensation and resettlement activities along the proposed transmission line.
