Resettlement and Livelihoods Specialist

Chamith Fernando is an experienced field project manager with expertise leading complex livelihood restoration and resettlement projects usually requiring extensive stakeholder engagement and the mentoring of local teams. In addition to his work with extractive and infrastructure projects across Africa and Asia, Chamith brings specialist knowledge from a variety of leadership positions with the United Nations, NGOs, universities, governments, and small and regional businesses. He has successfully led the design and execution of large-scale resettlement and livelihood restoration programs, including the negotiation, consultation, and start-up of a strategic US $180 million vulnerable and livelihood restoration project for displaced persons. Chamith has consistently demonstrated results leveraging extractive and infrastructure projects to stimulate local and regional economic development in both rural and urban locations. Chamith is a proven leader with the field experience and technical expertise necessary to train and mentor local teams in the planning and implementation of effective resettlement and livelihood restoration programmes. His particular areas of expertise include stakeholder engagement and consultation, multi-stakeholder negotiations, social management policies and plans, and livelihoods transition and restoration.
