Emily Nunn is a trained Social Performance Specialist, with ten years of experience in the extractive and not-for-profit sectors. Emily works with companies at the corporate and site levels to identify and manage social risks, and supports them in building constructive relationships with their stakeholders in order to realize project benefits. Her specific areas of expertise are community relations, livelihoods restoration, resettlement, and human rights.

Through her work with international development organizations, Emily has been involved in the design and implementation of community-based development initiatives focused on rural livelihood diversification and capacity-building. Prior to joining rePlan, Emily managed the Corporate Social Responsibility Program for one of the world’s largest mining industry associations, where she led the design and promotion of guidance for the Canadian extractive sector in accordance with international standards, specifically the IFC Performance Standards, UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights, Voluntary Principles on Security and Human Rights, and the OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises. Emily has presented on best practice in stakeholder engagement at numerous industry conferences, including Mining Indaba, the IFC’s Sustainability Exchange, and the PDAC Convention.

Since joining rePlan, Emily has worked with a number of clients in Central and West Africa, leading the planning and implementation of IFC-compliant consultation and monitoring programs related to physical and economic displacement and resettlement. Emily’s intimate knowledge of international standards and industry best practice has positioned her as a key resource on the team, working with clients to identify, assess, and address gaps in their social performance to ensure compliance with corporate and international frameworks. In addition to on-going work on a number of major resettlement projects in the region, Emily manages rePlan’s West Africa office in Dakar, Senegal, from where she also provides capacity-building and planning support to rePlan teams on projects in Guinea and the DRC. Emily holds an M.A. in Human Rights and Democratization (European Inter-University Centre for Human Rights; 2010) and a B.A. Honours in Political Science and International Development (St. Francis Xavier University; 2006). Emily is fluent in French and English.
