Tom Coyle

Urban Designer, Urban Planner

Tom is a Senior Planner & Project Manager, with over 30 years of planning, implementation and project management experience. As a graduate architect and Registered Professional Planner, he brings a strong community-oriented approach to the planning, design and implementation of resettlement programs and worker housing programs. Tom began his work with rePlan in 2005, serving as the Director of Shelter Development for a Tsunami Reconstruction Project in Indonesia. In this role, he led a team of planners, architects and social scientists in preparing and implementing reconstruction / resettlement plans for seven rebuilt communities and two new resettlement villages, as well as the design of new housing and community facilities. Following that, he was responsible for the start-up of rePlan’s Alberta office, where he managed a team providing planning and development assistance to the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo in the Oil Sands, including the preparation of community development plans for new regional growth centers. In more recent years, he has helped lead a number of resettlement and worker housing projects across Africa, including those in Ghana, Burkina Faso, Madagascar, Guinea, Tanzania, Zambia and Sierra Leone, on behalf of a variety of mining sector clients. Tom is a seasoned and capable leader, coach and mentor, and has extensive site-based experience.
